Termite control has become just another DIY job for
homeowners. e man who changed it all, removed the
myths and mysteries, invented two new products and, as
one happy customer said: "With these Traps and sticky
pouches, baiting termites is now as easy as feeding the dog."
Ion Staunton, who wrote the textbooks used in training the professionals,
set out to design a simple system that homeowners, with a minimum of
termite knowledge, could deploy around their buildings to intercept scouting
termites looking for timber. e simplicity has made it very e ective. A er all,
termites have followed their basic habits for eons.
To defend your home, you need a device to hold wood. e Trap is a
UV-protected plastic box which, once discovered and entered, allows termites
to quickly and easily seal it to retain humidity and exclude ants.
e Traps are placed ON rather than IN the ground making these monitors
the most convenient to use. Digging is not required because termites always
come up from the ground to nd the timber they eat in buildings. Scienti c
backing supports on-surface placement. Trials have shown that on-ground
monitors were discovered sooner than in-ground monitors. e more Traps
you set out around your structures, the more likely and quicker you can expect
to intercept termite scouts. A mudded-up hole in the top lets you know at a
glance when they have arrived.
e design seems simple and the reasoning plausible, but the proof is in the
thousands of property owners who have used TermiteTraps to eliminate
termite colonies that were threatening their homes and out-buildings. e bait
is exactly the same as used by the pest professionals because it is safe to
humans, other mammals, birds --- and it works!
Because the Traps are UV-protected, they are guaranteed for 10 years but
will last in the sun for maybe 20+ years. A er termites nd and attack the
timber inside and are successfully baited, the timber can be replaced, the Traps
reset and the original Traps can be reused many times. You only need buy bait
($260 for enough to kill a big colony or a couple of smaller ones) when you
But what about those "sticky pouches"?
The top side of the pouch has a peel-back label
so you can check what's going on. The
underside has a hole and an adhesive so you
can stick it to any timbers being eaten by
termites (or over the hole in the top of the
Trap). Being exible, it can be stuck on round
posts, fancy architraves or skirting boards.
If you nd termites eating timber, you make a small hole into the
infested timber, place the hole in the sticky side of the pouch over the hole
you ve made and the termite workers then have direct access to collect the
bait and take it back to kill o the whole nest. Unopened, pouches will
keep for years. It is non-toxic to us humans, pets or wildlife.
Defending your home and buildings is even easier. ere are 22
Traps in a carton and you spread them around your home (virtually
anywhere but the lawn). e average spacing is about 3 metres apart.
Logic tells you, the more Traps you have out there, the more chances you
have to intercept termite scouts. Spreading them around is a 10 minute
job you do once a decade or two. (You don t need to buy bait until you
have a strike). No digging; just place them ON surfaces.
