FINANCIAL incentive is up
for grabs for producers who
donate sheep and cattle with
nervous symptoms, to Biosecurity
SA for research.
Sheep and cattle brains will be col-
lected and examined as part of the
2010-2011 national Transmissible
Freedom Assurance program.
This ongoing program tests ani-
mals every year to demonstrate that
Australian livestock are free from
mad cow disease and scrapie, there-
by allowing Australia, and South
Australia, continued access to key
overseas markets for beef, lamb and
To be eligible for the TSE program:
•Sheep must be older than 18
months, cattle must be older than 30
months and less than nine years.
•Animals must be showing neuro-
logical signs such as:
•Head rubbing or pressing
•Abnormal reaction to touch
•Abnormal ear position
Evidence of this behaviour must be
sighted by your local vet or a

Brains are removed from affected
animals and submitted for laboratory
examination to rule-out TSE.
For sheep and cattle that meet
these criteria, producers will receive
$50 for each sheep brain and $300
for each cattle brain.
In addition to collecting the brains,
your private vet or local animal
health officer will also conduct a post
mortem examination to look for
other causes of the neurological
Laboratory fees associated with the
post mortem exam are also covered
by PIRSA, up to a maximum of two

collect and examine at least 55 sheep brains and 25 cattle brains a year.
F CUBED is a solar powered water
desalination company now introduc-
ing its technology to the market.
Solar desalination has been used
for centuries and uses the same nat-
ural processes that produce the
world's rainfall -- evaporation and
cooling of the vapour to form con-
F Cubed has developed an
extremely efficient, low capital cost
panel -- Carocell -- enabling the broad
use of solar desalination as a viable
Carocell is a direct solar desalina-
tion unit which only requires sun-
shine as its power source in creating
potable drinking water from any
water supply including bore, polluted,
brackish or sea water.
The process eliminates all bacteria
and pathogens and removes all
chemicals, heavy metals and salts,
which domestic water filters are
unable to achieve.
The unique modular design pro-
vides the opportunity for any water
requirement, from a single panel for
domestic requirements to a solar
water farm providing towns with
pure potable water.
A single panel on average will pro-

The Carocell panel has minimal
maintenance as it has no moving
electronic parts, nor does it rely on
expensive filters, membranes, chemi-
cals or power systems.
The system is completely solar-dri-
ven and produces no greenhouse gas
emissions. The feed water can be sup-
plied by gravity/pressure or pump,
enabling it to be completely versatile
to fit within your current demand.

"The purchase of a centre pivot for my farm was
probably the best decision that I have made for many
years. Although it is only a small 4 span pivot, it has
saved me at least 20 hours per week -- the time I used
to spend changing & fixing travelling irrigators. I am
using significantly less water while growing more grass
as the amount and speed of water application can be
varied at the turn of a switch. To be able to go and
irrigate all your paddock with the push of a button
really makes irriation a lot less stressful. Because the
pivot operates at low pressure (20psi) compared to the travellers (90psi)
and the fact that you apply exactly the amount of water you need straight
from the bore, my bill is significantly lower with less stress on the pumping
system. When I finally decided to put in the pivot I contacted several
companies for quotes and prices and finally decided to purchase from
Irrigation Systems & Components Australia, a company based in Murray
Bridge. I had a member of ISCA on my farm measuring to quote before any
of the other companies had returned my initial contact. I believe that it was
big advantage having a local company who manufactured there own
product. The installation of the pivot, main water line, electrics and pump
eonnections were completed on time. All small problems that occured after
installation were fixed without delay and the after-sales service was
excellent. I can highly recommended Irrigation Systems & Components."
